How did you choose your specific area of study?
I actually stumbled upon Human Factors unexpectedly. After completing my undergraduate degree in Psychology at Mason, I knew I wanted to further my studies, but I wasn’t sure where it would lead me. I applied for an Applied Psychology (Human Factors) graduate certificate, a Cognitive Neuroscience graduate certificate and an Industrial and Organizational (IO) Psychology Master’s Program. After researching the programs, I soon realized Human Factors was the path I wanted to go down, and fortunately, I was accepted into the Applied Psychology Graduate Certificate with a concentration in Usability. I am incredibly grateful for this program, and I can't speak highly enough of the faculty and students here!

Are there faculty or staff members who made a difference during your Mason career?
Several people have been instrumental in my journey at Mason. My athletic academic advisor, Mike Ouellette, helped me navigate application processes and semester schedules around my sporting commitments. My coaches supported me both on the field and in the classroom. The admissions team in the Psychology graduate department, especially Tanie, Marguerite, and Christina provided valuable assistance in helping me find this program. A special thanks also goes to my professors, particularly, Dr. Matthews, Dr. Roesler, and Dr. Phillips, who offered incredible support and expertise throughout my studies as a student-athlete.

What advice would you give to an incoming cohort of graduate students?
Get involved in class discussions and ask questions. Grad school can be intimidating but remember that nobody has all the answers all the time. Don’t be afraid to ask for clarification!

What are your current career plans following graduation? What are your long-term career goals?
I’m from Melbourne, Australia, and I've had the privilege of studying at George Mason and playing soccer on the Division 1 Men’s team for the past four and a half years. After completing my graduate certificate, I plan to move back to Melbourne and begin applying for jobs. My goal is to work in Ergonomics and ultimately pursue a career as an organizational development consultant.
